A Sap Intermission-Day of Rest

The past few days have been quite a sap run for us.  We collected about 5000 gallons of sap over the last couple of days. Sugar content is still at 3.0-3.2 percent! The CDL Reverse Osmosis continues to work flawlessly reducing our boiling time by 3 times.  Weather forecast continues to look excellent as we enter the prime maple season. As long as the buds stay tight we will be in business.   I have an ample supply of bottles, extra caps and labels for your maple syrup bottling requirements as well as filters and pan cleaner.   This season is shaping up to be an excellent one.

Have great week and take a break today.   I know I am going to take a nap!!

Major Sap Run Sunday

The conditions were perfect for sapping today.   We had 30 people, collected 2500 gallons from 1500 buckets that were all mostly full.  We did not get to our 4th site and will complete that tomorrow morning to prepare for Monday’s sap run.  Sugar content remains high at 3.2 to 4.0.   Most of our trees are located in residential areas and have large crowns on them.  The RO worked flawlessly turning what used to take at least a17 hour cooking time  to 5 hours.  Well I am off to catch some sleep.  I will be available for your supply needs  Monday, March 21, from 11 am to 4pm.  Give me a call so I can be sure to be there or have ready what you need.

Cold weather is finally here

Last night was our first freezing night since we put in our 2000 buckets in the St. Croix Valley.  We collected 811 gallons from 1500 taps today, sugar content ranged from 3.0 to 3.4 per cent.  Not bad considering 2015 average was 2.2 to 2.6 %.  Snow flurries are forecast through Saturday, clearing on Sunday  with temps, 40’s highs and 20’s  the lows  all next week.  We are anticipating a good second half of March.   It is,  after all, March 18th and these temperatures are average.  We will be collecting the remainder of the 500 buckets tomorrow morning and fire up the 3×10 Intensofire evaporator and the CDL 600 gallon per hour Reverse Osmosis at noon on the 19th.  If you are in the area, stop by and say hello, and take a look at our sugar shack in action.    We will be out collecting 10am-noon and 4-6pm tomorrow, Saturday, March 19th.   Have a great weekend.
